iPhone 4G Concept

There’s also a pretty neat roundup of rumours concerning the new device made by Cupertino, all of them comprised in the following image (click to enlarge). Among those, it’s very likely that the iPhone 4G will sport an OLED display, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, a front facing video camera and a dual core processor and more RAM.

It’s interesting to note that the launch of the product, supposed to take place between May and July is considered a 99% sure fact. Speculations regarding the next gen iPhone also mention the presence of a touch sensitive case (making the handset resemble the Magic Mouse), 64GB of NAND flash memory, portable DVR functionality and built-in RFID.

Build an In-Counter Recycle Bin

Over at IKEAHacker, they highlight how one German reader hid his recycling bins by crafting a clever cabinet for his kitchen. He lives in an apartment and space was tight, so the best way to have the recycle bins handy but out of sight was to take some inexpensive IKEA components and make a hidden recycling storage area:

We took an Akurum cupboard with Applad doors and handles to match our Ikea kitchen. Put the worktop on which is also used in the kitchen and cut two round holes in it. We sealed and glued the inside cut with edging strip which came with the work top. As lids we used some wooden food plates which Ikea sold in the summer and added Ikea door knobs. In order for the lids not to fall through we cut the holes in the Akurum top about 2 cm smaller than the one in the worktop.

While those of you with spacious suburban garages may not be running to build a recycle bin-stashing-counter any time soon, for urban dwellers tight on space it's a clever use of space.

USB Flash Drive That Can Show Space Status

The main functions of this USB flash concept is collecting, gathering and acquiring information, which can easily be realized from its innovative shape. Aside from making it stylish, the smooth curvature case of the flash drive with silver finish and glossy edge design allows it to be disconnected easily from the computer. The small display located at the back of the device will show the drive’s capacity, status of used and remaining space, and certain symbols and writings. The presentation of the information into the display can be customized by using the active menu when the device is turned on.

A sexy OXY Watch

Besides it’s sexy looks, what I like most about the OXY Watch is that it’s unisex. Routine specs like Time, Date, Calendar, and Alarm are included, but what makes it stand out is its gorgeous E-ink display. It’s been conceived in several versions with stainless steel and colored leather strap combos, encasing a monochrome display with mineral glass. XKALIA Typography has been used to display the numerics, which really goes well with the styling.

Light Up Some Memory - Matchstick Memory

Dedicated to Phillumeny, the Phillu is a matchbox shaped portable memory storage device with matchsticks that have 5 GB storage capacity. Nine sticks in the box, essentially translating to 45 GB collective capacity. The trick is that you really need to light the sticks to transfer the data.

To transfer data by sticks:

    * Push the case from behind to choose and pick an available stick.
    * Put the stick head at the end of the striker.
    * Strike the stick quickly along the striker adding pressure.
    * Now the stick turns into burned black match, making it possible to give it to another Phillu owner to share your data without the need of any computer in between.
    * Sharing your data with others will be completed after they plug in the stick to their own Phillu.

Designer’s Tip:
Do not let kids play with matches!

Honda Zeppelin Supercar of 2009

The creator of the vehicle is a student at the Hongik University, following the car design course. Zeppelin was the designer’s final year project, as he was required to create a luxury sedan of the future.

Honda Zeppelin looks like a combo between Citroen GT and the newest Batmobile, the one from “The Dark Knight”. Its name (and shape) was inspired by airships, but this is still a luxurious piece of machinery. Notice the asymmetric line running from the hood and along the roofline, till the car’s rear end.

Forget about the standard winshield on this futuristic supercar, that relies on an interior video display, providing much greater field of vision. Honda Zeppelin’s doors are shaped in the gullwing style and inside you’ll find luxury seatings, also inspired by aircrafts. The front seats are swivelling and can be turned to face the rear ones in the “Entertainment Mode”.

Yongsan IDB Masterplan, the Dream Hub for Seoul, Korea

Foster and Partners have designed the Yongsan IDB Masterplan, a dream hub to transform the Seoul, Korea from a huge railway goods yard into an extraordinary metropolitan center. The design spot has been envisioned to be easily accessible via three architectural arcs, an icon derived from the Taoist idea of ying and yang. The key point of the design is the landmark tower collection which is made of three spiraling towers known as the ‘helixia’, designed to give the project a new focus and connect three varied areas together, the river han, the yongsan staion and the yongsan electronics district, a place where visitors can enjoy a variety of places like winding ramps and multitude connecting leveled lifts. With the twisting surroundings, helixia, the center of electricity and interaction will become a new global destination.
